“During the process - the very first time we were ever put into the makeup - I closed my eyes and it took like nearly four hours to create Thorin, and eventually I said ‘look, we’ll have to cover the mirror’ ‘cause I didn’t want to see it. And they filmed it on a time lapse camera, and then when they finished, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna look’ and it was like meeting the character for the first time and after the months of researching and then developing of the character, to see him looking back at me and to not recognize myself was really moving.”
